DATACROS III

Developing an ethical AI-driven tool-box for boosting cross-border financial investigations on organised crime networks

Funded by European Union - Internal Security Fund
Starting date January 2025
End date December 2026

DATACROS III is a research project co-funded by the European Union (Internal Security Fund | ISF-2023-TF2-AG-OC) to enhance the tool developed (DATACROS I: 2019-2021) and enhanced (DATACROS II: 2022-2024) in the first and second phases of the project.

The tool employs a wide range of risk indicators to detect anomalies in firms’ ownership structures that may indicate a high risk of money laundering, collusion and corruption. DATACROS III will extend the scope and capabilities of the tool with new analytics functions, including:

  • Machine learning detection models
  • NLP-based analysis of textual information
  • Image processing

The enhanced version of the tool will benefit from the integration of new data and sources:

  • BO and business registers
  • Company data
  • Real estate data
  • Public procurement and funds data
  • Virtual currencies and transactions
  • Satellite imagery

The consortium, led by Transcrime – Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, includes 23 organisations, ensuring an impact beyond the borders of the European Union and bringing together the main categories of end-users: LEAs, AROs, FIUs, anti-corruption and competition authorities, and investigative journalists.
