EJCPR ranked 13th worldwide in the field of criminology

The European Journal on Criminal Policy and Research (EJCPR) has been ranked 13th worldwide in the Criminology & Penology category of the latest Journal Citation Reports (JCR), one of the leading international rankings of academic journals. This places the EJCPR in the first quartile (Q1), recognising it among the top 25% of journals in the field for its scientific excellence.

Since 2003, the journal has been led by Editor-in-Chief Prof. Ernesto Ugo Savona, Director of Transcrime. Under his editorial leadership, the journal has strengthened its international standing and has recently advanced a renewed vision: contributing to the (re)construction of a European identity in criminological research by overcoming national silos while drawing on the diversity of research communities across the continent.

Professor Savona was also recently recognised by Springer Nature for bringing the EJCPR into the top 20% of the publisher’s portfolio for editorial performance and author service and, in 2025, received the European Criminology Award in recognition of his outstanding contribution.

The journal’s editorial team also includes Transcrime researchers Deborah Manzi, managing editor, and Michael Lo Giudice, assistant managing editor, who contribute to the journal’s continued development.
