The VANGUARD project (adVANced technoloGical solutions coupled with societal-oriented Understanding and AwaReness for Disrupting trafficking in human beings) aims to strengthen the fight against trafficking in human beings (THB) by disrupting the chain of criminal activities at an early stage and combating the culture of impunity. To this end, advanced technologies and artificial intelligence will be used to detect online-facilitated THB activities and to disrupt THB activities at (border) checkpoints.

Transcrime, leader of WP2 “Intelligence Picture, Societal Dimensions and VANGUARD Requirements”, will coordinate the research, data collection and analysis to identify the modus operandi and business models of the criminals involved; we will conduct interviews with policy makers, LEAs, border authorities, victims and perpetrators. We will also coordinate the finalisation of use cases and the collection of end-user requirements for the development of VANGUARD technologies. In addition to Transcrime, the project involves institutes and research centres, technology and data analysis companies, SMEs and public authorities from several European countries.
