CTC – Cut The Cord

Crime&tech project

Funded by Internal Security Fund (ISF) – DG HOME
Starting date November 2021
End date October 2023

Project CTC – Cut the Cord, funded by the European Commission DG HOME (ISF – Police), aims to strengthen the EU’s capacity to understand and counter terrorist financing (TF) by exploring the use of new technologies for investigating the phenomenon. Assisting Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) and other entities in their fight against the financing of terrorism, the international consortium coordinated by KEMEA will work to “cut the cords” to non-traditional products (such as cryptocurrencies) and services used for this end.

The CTC project will also establish a wide stakeholder community and boost the exchange of information to limit terrorist financing between the traditional and digital economy.

Crime&tech

Crime&tech, the spin-off company of Transcrime and Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, is partner in this consortium and will cooperate with LEAs, FinTech, banking institutions and data providers to develop Artificial Intelligence tools able to analyse financial transactions and to detect terrorist financing schemes. Specifically, Crime&tech researchers will identify emerging TF threats and trends, operationalise them into use-cases and collect end users’ requirements.

The Cut The Cord project was funded by the European Union’s Internal Security Fund — Police programme under grant agreement No. 101036276.
