Online radicalisation, extremism, and terrorism
Key results from the research conducted under the project ALLIES
This report summarises key findings from the deliverables produced by Transcrime – Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore as part of the EU-funded ALLIES project (AI-based framework for supporting micro (and small) HSPs on the report and removaL of onLIne tErroriSt content).
It explores how extremist groups, including jihadists and far-right extremists, leverage the internet to disseminate propaganda, recruit members, and incite violence, with a focus on their objectives, narratives, and strategies. The report also introduces risk indicators and a unified taxonomy for identifying and classifying terrorist content online. These tools have been integrated into the project’s risk assessment module to assist Hosting Service Providers in meeting the requirements of the TCO regulation.
The findings are based on extensive desk research and empirical data collected through expert interviews with representatives from law enforcement agencies and leading scholars in the field.
