Global supply chains and inadequate migration policies have created new vulnerabilities for the fastest-growing, yet least-studied driver of human trafficking: labor exploitation. Its new and complex architecture exploits layered networks of seemingly legitimate firms<\/strong> to evade scrutiny, presenting severe challenges to traditional law enforcement. Within the EU-funded projects VANGUARD<\/a> and INVERT<\/a>, Transcrime addressed this gap by mapping the modern model of forced labor and developing data-driven, AI-powered tools<\/strong> to support authorities.<\/p>\n

In this interview, Transcrime researchers Carlotta Carbone and Clara Rondani discuss the mechanisms behind this phenomenon, the vulnerabilities of legal migration channels, and how our tools help detect corporate anomalies, score entity risk, and enable law enforcement to target high-risk business clusters.<\/p>\n
