Job Description

We are looking for a researcher/analyst to be involved in our team for supporting our research and development activity in the field of crime study and crime prevention policy design and evaluation. In particular, the candidate will be involved in carrying out both quantitative and qualitative analysis, drafting reports, support the drafting of research proposals.

Transcrime is the Joint research centre on transnational crime of the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore. Transcrime is active in the study of a variety of criminal phenomena, including organised and financial crime, illicit financial flows, illicit trafficking. It has carried out more than 200 research projects, at national and international level, since 1994. It cooperates with international organisations (e.g. UN, European Commission, IADB), law enforcement agencies, judicial authorities, public and supervisory agencies and private organisations/foundations. Crime&tech is the spin-off company of Università Cattolica-Transcrime, which translates Transcrime research in analyses, models, applications for the assessment, prevention and mitigation of crime and security risks.

What you will do:

  • Support research projects related to a variety of criminal phenomena (financial crime, organised crime, illicit trafficking of firearms, illicit drug trafficking, violent crimes, and others)
  • Carry out quantitative analysis, including data collection, data organisation, statistical analysis of structured and unstructured information coming from various sources
  • Carry out qualitative analysis, including collection and analysis of case studies, literature review, drafting questionnaires and surveys
  • Carry out interviews with selected experts and stakeholders (e.g. law enforcement agencies, judicial authorities, domain experts)
  • Support the training of selected experts and stakeholders in the crime analysis/crime prevention field
  • Support the drafting of research proposals
  • Support the administration of research projects, including relationship with project partners and funding agencies

Basic requirements:

  • MSc/MA in Criminology, Sociology, Economics/Finance, Statistics or related subjects
  • Good knowledge of quantitative methods, including inferential analysis and data analytics
  • Good knowledge of STATA, SPSS or other data analysis software
  • Good knowledge of qualitative methods, including case study analysis and survey design
  • Previous experience in drafting research reports, policy papers, scientific publications
  • Fluency in English and in Italian, both oral and written
  • Interest in analysis of crime trends and crime impact and interlinks between crime and socio-economic

Preferred requirements:

  • Previous experience in research institutions/departments
  • Previous knowledge of crime analysis/crime phenomena
  • Knowledge of a third foreign language
  • Ability with public relations
  • Knowledge of R or Python would be a plus

Salary and type of contract/involvement will be defined according to curriculum, seniority and availability of the candidate.
