Maria Jofre is a postdoctoral research fellow at Transcrime from October 2019. She recently received her PhD degree in Business Analytics from The University of Sydney Business School (2018). Maria also studied Industrial Engineering and a Master’s Degree in Operations Management at the University of Chile. Her main research interests are crime statistics, statistical machine learning, corruption and money laundering, and corporate criminology, amongst others.
Maria is currently participating in several projects at Transcrime, including DATACROS (Developing a Tool to Assess Corruption Risk Factors in Firms’ Ownership Structure), as well as coordinating research collaborations and partnerships with relevant institutions in Latin America.
Maria has been awarded with the first prize at the JB Douglas postgraduate research competition 2017 hosted by the Statistics Society of Australia (SSA) and the first prize of the Business School 3-Minute Thesis competition in 2016. She has been interviewed by several news media about the mathematics of criminal behaviour in business, including the ABC Radio National Science Show and the SBS Spanish (Australia).
